"We need to help people understand that if their kids are raised on a diet of junk food they are being set up for a lifetime of serious health problems and even a shortened life expectancy," says Oliver. "I know we don't want to be killing our kids."
JAMIE OLIVER cares a lot about food, and about turning around the bad state of health our present food culture has brought with it.
In Feb 2010 at the $6,000/seat TED Conference (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) Oliver spoke passionately (video below), winning their $100,000 prize and even inspiring many offers of additional help shouted out from members of the audience: $10,000 to create a cookbook featuring his ten “must-know” recipes; office space, introductions to potentially helpful members of Congress, a new web site, and market research for a new food line Oliver might want to create.
Having started his restaurant work at the early age of 8 at his parents' restaurant, he sees schools and children as the primary targets for inspiring a lasting change in food behavior around the world. Not only by creating healthy school meal programs, but also educating children about foods, nutrition, and even cooking.
“I wish for your help to create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.”
